Hello All,

I built this jig to router out binding & purfling channels. I based its design on a picture I saw on the internet, of a guy (Don’t know who?) holding a guitar body up against something attached to a router table. That one picture sparked the idea for the design I came up with. I’m sure I am not the first one to do this. Anyone know who invented this jig?

I want to give credit where credit is due.

John Kinkead in his book shows a router table binding channel jig very similar in concept.

First one like it I saw was Paul Jacobson's set up...

This looks very much like one Tom Bazzolo built long ago

Similar also to the one David Russell Young shows in his book also.

Well, I’m not familiar with any of the names you’ve mentioned, but, from what ya’ll have said, it appears there’s a lot of guys out there with the same idea.

Hey Colby - It works very well, but I believe there is room for improvement. I was considering installing a couple of bearings in the vertical guide. Not sure exactly how that would change the operation though. I should say, that (just the way it is) the body of the guitar rides quite nicely along the guide. Also, I go very slowly. You can see the results of this jig in the “Making adjustment for Binding” thread. Be happy to tell you more about, if you want.

Hey Ronn - Is that Paul Jacobson, or is that you with your jig?

Anyone got any pics of the other guy’s you’ve mentioned?

Thanks, Robert

Happy Holidays to all!!!
